A photo exposed recently on the internet of Chinese shows that 4 new Type 055 destroyers are in a dock, two of which launched, and two still under construction.
It’s analyzed that on the two destroyers being built, the main gun position in the head has undergone a major change compared to the other two.
The main gun position of the first 055 on the left side of the dock has a main gun (or simulation) much larger than that the ones on the water. And the biggest possibility is the electromagnetic gun, which means such improved 055 destroyer will be equipped with the world’s first naval electromagnetic gun.
It’s reported that as early as the beginning of 2018, China’s full-body ship-borne electromagnetic gun system had been tested on the ship. At that time, a full-body electromagnetic gun with a turret was installed on a Type 072 tank landing ship numbered 936.
As we all know, Type 072 landing ship uses a diesel engine and its power cannot keep up with energy consumption of any electromagnetic guns. Therefore, deck of the ship was almost filled with supporting equipment needed for the electromagnetic gun.
But for Type 055 destroyer, this might not be a problem anymore.
