After Kinmen fishermen were knocked overboard and died by Taiwanese law enforcement officers, China has strengthened patrols in the waters around Kinmen Island, which Taiwan controls.
CCTV released a report on Tuesday about routine law enforcement patrols conducted by Fujian maritime police in the waters near Kinmen. It mentioned that on May 6th, Fujian maritime police carried out routine law enforcement patrols in the waters near Kinmen in accordance with the law. Chinese maritime police will resolutely maintain the order of operations in the jurisdictional waters and the safety of fishermen’s lives and property. During law enforcement patrols, Chinese maritime police not only need to pay attention to the situation on the sea surface but also protect the underwater pipeline between Quanzhou and Kinmen from damage. In addition, they are also responsible for implementing maritime rescue, resolving maritime conflicts, handling maritime emergencies, and other tasks.
According to analysis, Chinese Fujian maritime police have taken control of all the channels to Kinmen, and all vessels passing through Kinmen have already been reported to mainland Chinese maritime police. This means that China has now controlled the sea supply line to Kinmen, previously under the control of the Taiwanese military.
