Renowned military expert Ma Dingsheng recently refuted Chinese hawkish scholar Jin Canrong’s remarks that China will use force on Taiwan by 2027, arguing that the Chinese people do not have the patience to wait until that day.
China’s famous “hawkish scholar” Jin Canrong said in a recent interview with Nikkei Asia that China will use force to achieve the reunification of mainland China and Taiwan by 2027, and that the PLA’s military deployment in response to Taiwan’s emergency is already more dominant than the U.S. military. Jin Canrong told Nikkei Asia that armed reunification will be pushed to become a reality once a major conference is held in the fall of 2022 and is likely to be brought forward to 2027, the 100th anniversary of the PLA’s founding.
Asked if China was concerned about a U.S. military response in the event of an armed reunification with Taiwan, Jin told Nikkei Asia that China already has the capability to reunify Taiwan within a week and that the PLA has the ability to defeat any U.S. forces within 1,000 nautical miles of the (Chinese) coast.
In the interview, Jin cautioned Japan not to interfere in Taiwan’s affairs. He told Nikkei Asia that Japan should never intervene in Taiwan’s “emergency” because the U.S. can’t even win against China in this regard. If Japan intervenes, China will have no choice but to defeat Japan as well. Japan should realize that a new change is taking place.
In addition, Jin Canrong believes that Taiwan should negotiate with Beijing as soon as possible on the reunification issue, saying that “their only option is to negotiate with mainland China as soon as possible. The longer it takes, the worse it will be for Taiwan”.
Jin Canrong is not the only one who thinks 2027 is the “time”. Last March, Admiral Philip Davidson, then commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, warned the U.S. Congress that China could “invade” Taiwan within the next six years. Davidson added: “They’ve long said they want to do that by 2050, and I’m concerned that they’re moving that goal closer.”
On the topic of Taiwan, in addition to Professor Jin Canrong’s “unification of Taiwan by 2027,” the Chinese ambassador to the U.S. Qin Gang warned in an interview with the U.S. media a few days ago that if the Taiwan authorities continue to go down the road of “Taiwan independence” with the “encouragement” of the U.S., the two powers will be involved in a “military conflict.”
In response to Jin’s statement, Ma Dingsheng, a leading Chinese military expert, said it was “really nonsense”.
According to Ma, the “Taiwan independence” forces, together with international hostile forces, have recklessly trampled on Beijing’s bottom line again and again, seriously hurting the national feelings of 1.4 billion people, “Jin Canrong actually wants the patriotic people to endure another five years? What kind of hawk is he?”
