After the Afghan Taliban forces announced that they have invited China and six other countries to participate in the government formation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin responded on September 7 whether the Taliban were ready to hand over the largest airbase in Afghanistan to China.
According to the official website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry on September 7, Wang Wenbin hosted a regular press conference of the Chinese Foreign Ministry. A reporter asked, “Indian media revealed that the Afghan Taliban forces plan to transfer the right to use Bagram airbase to China for operational needs, and discussions are underway between China and the Taliban forces on related matters, can China confirm the relevant information?”
Wang Wenbin responded that what I can tell you is that this is purely false news.
This comes after the Indian media outlet The Hindu quoted Nikki Haley, former US permanent representative to the UN, as saying on September 2 that the US must keep a close eye on China as it moves to take over the US-built Bagram airbase after Taliban forces regain power in Afghanistan.
