According to a recent report by CCTV’s military program, “on the snowy plateau at an altitude of 4,200 meters, a brigade of the 81st Army has recently launched a shooting assessment. Based on the characteristics of the plateau and mountains, they used the high-fire range shooting method for the first time to accurately strike targets dozens of kilometers away. High-shooting Boundary shooting refers to a shooting method in which the artillery barrel is adjusted to 45 degrees or more. It is mainly used to hit targets on tall shelters, deep trenches, canyons, and reverse slopes.”
According to public information, the 81st Army is based in Zhangjiakou, Hebei. It is an elite army unit under the Central Theater Command of China. Its main task is to defend Beijing and surrounding areas. A certain synthetic brigade of this group army is known as the “China’s First Blue Army Brigade” as a professional model of US military tactics.
The 155mm self-propelled howitzer participating in the exercise is the first 155mm tracked self-propelled artillery officially equipped by the People’s Liberation Army, developed from the PLZ-45 self-propelled howitzer.
The howitzer can launch standard shells such as full-bore cylinders, bottom rows, bottom rows-rocket-assisted blasting bombs, flares, smoke bombs, cluster bombs, and yellow phosphorous bombs. It can also launch laser guidance, satellite guidance and precision shells such as terminal sensitive shells.
It uses an automatic loading system and compartment structure turret tail. The projectiles and propellant are stored in two layers in the rolling circular bomb bay at the rear of the turret. The swing arm pneumatic transporter is installed behind the turret. The loader can automatically select ammunition, measure and combine fuzes, and load ammunition at any angle.
Sino-Indian relations have once again become tense. India has deployed the 155mm K-9 self-propelled howitzers to the Sino-Indian border. The K-9 self-propelled howitzers were purchased from South Korea. It weighs 47 tons, has a maximum range of 40 kilometers, and a maximum rate of fire of 12 rounds per minute.
