PLA combined arms battalion uses new equipment to divide and encircle ‘enemy’

A combined battalion of the 78th Army used Type 99A main battle tanks, Type 04A infantry fighting vehicles, and QBZ-191 assault rifles for a recent military exercise, according to an official release.

The 78th Group Army of the People’s Liberation Army recently released information about its combined arms battalion. According to the article, a tactical exercise of a combined brigade-battalion of the 78th Army began at 8 o’clock in the morning on June 18.

During the exercise, under the cover of firepower, the mixed formation of tanks and infantry vehicles quickly unfolded, alternately covered, closely coordinated, and attacked the enemy’s frontier.

The battalion command team updates the battlefield information from time to time to ensure that the battalion commander can “hold the battle situation in a timely manner, accurately formulate battle plans, and quickly issue battle orders.”

The tactical exercise of the combined arms battalion implemented “multi-arms mixed and multi-fire coordinated combat”, “randomly set up a variety of situations, and flexibly used a variety of tactics, effectively testing the combat effectiveness of the combined battalion’s command and control and battlefield coordination.

After more than two hours of fierce battle, the battalion successfully completed the division and encirclement of the “enemy” and achieved effective control over the “enemy” position.

According to public information, the 78th Group Army of the PLA is affiliated to the Northern Theater Command of China. It was established in April 2017 and is based in Heilongjiang.
