China’s CCTV defense and military channel revealed the latest footage of the J-20 on May 12 when it introduced Liu Yuti, a first-class combat hero of the country’s air force, as well as his grandson Chen Liu. Chen Liu is a J-20 pilot of the Chinese Air Force, who also flies advanced fighters such as the J-16 and J-10C.
In the program, China revealed many details of the J-20’s fuselage up close, including the “Electro-Optical Distributed Aperture System” (EODAS), which is considered classified and similar to the one used in the F-35 fighter.
Earlier, on May 3, the China Aerospace Science Institute (CASI) at the U.S. Air Force University said that China has deployed a second J-20 combat brigade unit to an air force base in Anshan, Liaoning province. The first, however, is located at the base in Wuhu, Anhui province.
And images circulating on the Internet show that a formation of at least six J-20 fighters were seen over Quzhou, Zhejiang Province, in late April, along with one JL-10 advanced trainer aircraft, which is used by China to train pilots for J-20.
Quzhou is only a few hundred kilometers from Taiwan, and from here the J-20 stealthy fighters can reach the skies over Taipei very quickly. To counteract mainland military operations, Taiwan’s military has deployed anti-stealth radar in the Penghu Islands.
