The Global Times 2021 Annual Meeting, with the theme of “A World Under Epidemic Crisis and Change,” was held on December 5, according to a report by Global Times. During the discussion session, Wang Zaixi, former vice president of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait, said that the possibility of peaceful reunification across the Taiwan Strait is becoming less and less likely.
“The U.S. is trying to induce a war in the Taiwan Strait to make the Chinese people on both sides of the Strait kill each other and reap third party profits. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of Taiwan is willing to act as a pawn of the United States, and cross-Strait relations are indeed at their most severe moment in 70 years,” said Wang Zaixi, “I think the U.S.-Taiwan collusion and mutual exploitation is the main cause of the current tension in the Taiwan Strait.”
According to Wang Zaixi, the possibility of peaceful reunification across the Taiwan Strait is now gradually disappearing and getting smaller, “for three reasons: first, Taiwan’s political system has undergone profound changes over the past decades. The second reason is that the object of peace negotiations has changed. The third is that Taiwan’s social and ecological environment has also changed.”
