China’s PCL-161 truck-mounted howitzers conduct exercises in Tibet

With the introduction of the PCL-161 122mm truck-mounted howitzer, a new-generation 4×4 military wheeled high-mobility off-road truck chassis, China’s light high-mobility brigade’s artillery unit finally has an artillery weapon system of the world’s most advanced and first-class level.

Compared to the previous PCL-09 122mm truck-mounted howitzer, the PCL-161 122mm truck-mounted howitzer maintains the same level of firepower, range, and speed, while using the proven design techniques of vehicle-gun integration, low firing line, adjustable oil and gas suspension, and rigid frame skin cab already applied to the PCL-181 155mm truck-mounted howitzer.

The PCL-161 122mm truck-mounted howitzer not only has better firing accuracy but also has the forward-firing capability, as it is equipped with an advanced digital fire control system, one-key opening and closing, automatic gun adjustment, and other functions, while the mobility of the new generation 4X4 military wheeled high-mobility off-road truck chassis is also significantly better than the previous PCL-09.

The 122mm truck-mounted howitzer’s SX2150 6×6 military wheeled high-mobility off-road truck chassis, coupled with its considerably lighter overall combat weight, has resulted in the PCL-161 122mm truck-mounted howitzer outperforming its predecessor, the PCL-09 122mm truck-mounted howitzer, by a wide margin.
