China’s first Type 055 destroyer Nanchang commissioned

On the morning of January 12 Beijing Time, the ceremony for incorporation of the first ship of Type 055 destroyer Nanchang (Pennant number 101) was held at a Chinese military port in Qingdao. This is the first ship to be listed by the Chinese Navy in 2020, and it is also the first 10,000-ton destroyer in the battle sequence.

Nanchang destroyer is the first one of Type 055 10,000-ton destroyer independently developed by China. It has broken through a series of key technologies such as overall design, information integration, and final assembly of large ships. It is equipped with new types of air defense, antimissile, anti-ship, and anti-submarine weapons, with strong information perception, air defense and anti-missile capability, and ability to strike targets on the sea.

The ship was launched on June 28, 2017, and participated in a maritime parade celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Navy on April 23, 2019.

According to Chinese media, the commissioning of Nanchang Type 055 destroyer “marked the transition of China’s navy destroyers from the third generation to the fourth generation.”
