A CCTV military program broadcasted on November 30th unveiled some details of a test of “Xingkong -2” hypersonic aircraft conducted on August 3rd, 2018.

The program reported that Xingkong-2 was launched by a rocket at a shooting range in northwest China. After nearly 10 minutes of flight, it completed active segment program turning, fairing abandon, inter-stage separation, flight tester release and autonomous flight, large maneuvering ballistic turn, etc., and finally entered the landing zone via the predetermined trajectory.

Its optical measurement, lightning measurement, and telemetry were normal throughout the test, and the flight tester was controllable and its scientific data was valid. The test verified lift characteristics and lateral maneuverability of the special shape of the hypersonic aircraft and was a success.

CCTV also quoted analysis of military expert as saying that “Xingkong-2” is currently in the experimental stage, and its public reports indicate that some basic tests for the early stage have been completed, and a certain amount of technology has been accumulated before further engineering tests.
